Testing ideas manipulating a plastic bag filled with water
My practice explores concepts of restraint, constraint, resistance and adaptation articulated through film, animation, print and drawing.

As Barbara Taylor, I have had a long career in the visual arts including as the national Programme Director for enquire and Director of Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery - for project archive click here. I currently work as a freelance artist, curator and consultant.
I am curator for grove, a project space for artists. This year I am working with artist filmmaker Amanda Loomes and she is in Bury St Edmunds for the week 1 - 7 May researching the sugar industry and our relationship with the sweet stuff. There is an open event 15.00 - 17.00, Sunday 7 May, at 1 Grove Road, IP33 3BE. Details of the grove residencies can be found at groveprojects.org.
Each summer I curate a street based exhibition, groving. In 2023 the theme is Encroach. Artists are commissioned to make small works to place on the streets of Bury St Edmunds during August, for people to enjoy, move or take away with them. Writers are also commissioned to respond to each of the work, posted on the blog.
I was delighted to show a film in the exhibition m2 Gallery ARTISTS: RECENT WORK, 28 April - 19 May 2022, at ASC Gallery, Thurlow Street, London SE17 2DG
This was the first of two very special exhibitions to celebrate the m2 Gallery, with work by about 50 artists who have shown work over the years. It also acknowledges the amazing support and encouragement that curators Ken Taylor and Julia Manheim have given to artists, through the gallery and in so many other ways.
